What is it? Project IRIS is an amateur short film. Nick Tsutsunava and Alessandro Chillé started the “Project IRIS” as seniors in high school. This short has been a test of the film makers drive and abilities, and despite set backs and previous inexperience, the film makers’ passions and talents have allowed this short to come together. How successful they were is up to you.

The story for Project IRIS has gone through multiple drafts, to the point of having five completely different scripts that could have served as foundation for the film. The more epic of the ideas had to be put off for feasibility purposes and are instead being adapted into a feature film script.

The idea to start working on a short film came from Nick. He and Alessandro connected and then collaborated from the very beginning in order to develop the film. After the completion of the script, pre-production began in early January, 2010. Film-prep required some creativity and intensive DIY projects in order to supplement these young film makers as they worked with what little they didn’t have. Trips to Home Depot became as commonplace as breathing. So were the frozen pizzas. But, we’re getting off-topic.

Setbacks regarding actor availability, final exams and the film makers’ desires to make this the best thing they possibly could pushed the film past its’ anticipated release date of May 2010. Since then, Nick and Alessandro have taken the past several months to make the movie even better than they originally planned.

Those behind Project IRIS are trying to push the definition of amateur film making by producing a movie that doesn’t reek of shakey-cam and poor edits.
